Behind the Badge, Tulsa Police Academy Field Trip
Epic students experienced a day of discovery inside the Tulsa Police Academy during a recent teacher-led field trip.
Epic teacher Peter Merwick organized the field trip to give his students an inside look at what it takes to be part of the Tulsa Police Department.
Students watched a K-9 team demonstration, including how a police dog is trained to apprehend a suspect. They also visited the department’s new $5 million police helicopter hangar, where they got an up-close look at the helicopters and learned about the technology used inside the aircraft.
Students also watched a bomb-diffuser robot demonstration and were surprised to learn the robot was controlled with a PlayStation controller.
Merwick schedules several field trip opportunities for his students during the year. Upcoming trips include tours of Tulsa International Airport and NewsChannel 6 in Tulsa.
